LOVE LETTER TO TONY KARR (AND DEAD TELEVISION)

STIX BLOG # 2

I met Tony Karr years ago thru a mutual friend "Lurch". Lurch set up a meeting at some well known ditches up in the hills above Los Angeles.  Tony was only about 13 or 14.  There was about an hour of daylight left on a warm Summer day.  The ditch was jumping with at least a dozen dudes.  Lurch called Tony over for the expected meeting.  I remember he was super polite for his age, but what stood out the most to me was how present he was.  I was more than twice his age at the time and thought to myself that I could learn a lot about living in the moment from this dude... and then I watched him skate.  If you've had the pleasure of seeing Tony skate then you know that there's something magical about it.  I've tried to explain it to people who haven't seen him skate as "it looks like he thinks about what he's going to do as he's doing it with no plan..."  Very few parts he's put out, including the one he put out for us in 2007's GRIP LIKE A VICE, really capture how good he really is.

Even when Tony left the shop (it was a very sad day), we stayed in contact thru the years, and supported his skateboarding. It was hard to see him go but at the end of the day I knew I had to back his decision. Recently we both agreed that he belongs at Stix and I'm very happy to say that Tony is back with the shop.  All of Tony's experiences have led him to his true destiny... Dead Television Skateboards.  Dead Television is purely Tony's vision.  We're looking forward to the future of the brand.  With Love, George
